Waqf Amendment Act: Supreme Court moots stay on non-Muslims in waqf boards, de-notifying existing waqf land

A three-judge Bench of Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justices PV Sanjay Kumar and KV Viswanathan did not pass any order to that effect but will hear the matter again tomorrow.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday mooted a stay on certain key provisions of the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, including the inclusion of non-Muslims in the Central Waqf Council and Waqf Boards, powers of collectors in deciding disputes over Waqf properties and provisions on de-notifying properties declared as waqf by courts.
