Vikas Singh defends CJI Dipak Misra – demands criminal contempt against CJAR

Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms had recently written a letter to the five senior-most judges of the Supreme Court calling for an in-house inquiry to be initiated against the Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra..A press conference was held yesterday calling attention to the concerns raised in the letter..Today, Senior Advocate and President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Vikas Singh has written a letter to the senior most judges refuting the allegations made against Misra J..The letter contends that the manner in which the Prasad Educational Trust matter was adjudicated, was correct..Singh in his letter has said,.“I have read the complaint made by the CJAR made to your Lordships and I feel that I would be failing in my duty if I do not point out certain factual inaccuracies in the complaint for consideration of your Lordships.” .Page 9 of the complaint made by CJAR contends that the order in one of the matters in the Medical College case was changed. The letter by Singh claims that the statement (in the complaint) regarding changing of orders in the matter is untrue..“There was no question of the order changing in the case of any particular college and in fact the said insinuation is a direct assault to cast serious aspersions not only on the Hon’ble CJI but also on the members of the Bench, namely, Justice Khanwilkar and Justice Chandrachud…”.Singh claims that the complaint made by CJAR is an attempt to scandalize the judiciary and has requested that the CJAR be charged with criminal contempt..Earlier, Singh had met CJI Dipak Misra at his residence on Sunday to chalk out a solution to the controversy that has gripped the Supreme Court after four senior-most judges of the Supreme Court raised concerns regarding the functioning of the Chief Justice at a press conference..Read the letter below.
