The PIL seeking a ban on raising and hoisting green flags sporting a crescent moon and a star was heard by the Supreme Court today..Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board Syed Waseem Rizvi had filed this PIL through Senior Counsel SP Singh. The matter was heard today by a Bench of Justices AK Sikri and Ashok Bhushan..The ban has been sought by the petitioner on the grounds that the said flag resembles the flag of the Pakistan Muslim League, a political outfit in that country. The petition contends that a ban on these flags will be in the interest of communal harmony in these times of growing religious tensions..The petitioner had moved the Supreme Court in this case in April this year, terming these flags “unislamic”..The Court sought a response from the Centre, and directed ASG Tushar Mehta to get instructions in this regard..The next date of hearing in the case is set for two weeks from now..Read Order:
