The Delhi Police has informed a Delhi court that tweets for which a case was registered against journalist Rana Ayyub are no longer available on the social media platform. .On the orders of the Court, police had filed a first information report (FIR) and started investigating Ayyub for tweets about Hindu deities and Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar that allegedly outraged and insulted the religious sentiments of Hindus. .In an action taken report (ATR) filed before Chief Judicial Magistrate Himanshu Raman Singh of the Saket Court, the police stated that they have uploaded four Section 91 CrPC notices on Twitter (X) for details of the tweets and Ayyub’s account. However, the response from the social media platform is awaited. “During course of investigation on 28/01/2025, a notice U/S 91 Cr.P.C was uploaded on twitter portal for obtaining details of the alleged X account @RanaAyyub and tweet which was posted by the alleged X (twitter) account. Thereafter again notices U/S 91 Cr.P.C were sent to 'X' through twitter portal on 03/03/2025, 10/04/2025 and 22/04/2025 for obtaining details of the alleged 'X' account @RanaAyyub, reply is still awaited. Moreover, on checking the ‘X’ Platform the alleged tweets are not available on ‘X’ (twitter) on receipt the reply from ‘X’ further investigation will be conducted accordingly and investigation of the case will be finalized," the report said. After considering the report on May 28, the Court asked the Police to file a fresh status report and adjourned the matter to July 30. .The Court had on January 25, 2025, ordered police to book and investigate Ayyub. It directed the police to convert the contents of a complaint filed by lawyer Amita Sachdeva into an FIR and investigate the matter.Subsequently, a case was filed against her for offences under Sections 153A (hate speech), 295A (hurting religious sentiments) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
