The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry has temporarily barred advocate R Balasubramanian from practicing before any legal forum in India for using obscene language against courts and judges both in the courtroom and outside..The decision was taken on July 1, after the Madras High Court ordered police to initiate criminal action against him. The Bar Council too initiated disciplinary proceedings against the lawyer and suspended him from law practice till the disposal of the disciplinary proceedings."The Bar Council has perused the entire records and has passed a resolution dated 4.7.2025 prohibiting said advocate from practicing as an Advocate before all Courts, Tribunals and other authorities in lndia either in his name or in any assumed name till the disposal of the disciplinary proceedings initiated by the Bar Council," the Council said. .The High Court had last month directed the police to act against Balasubramanian for obstructing the cops from executing a non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against his clients.Noting that the advocate repeatedly abused and cursed the Court, Justice PT Asha had also asked the Bar Council to proceed against him. "Considering the fact that a member of this noble profession has acted in such a fashion which has brought discredit to the profession Mr. CK Chandrasekar, learned standing counsel for the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry present before this Court is directed to take necessary steps to initiate proceedings against Mr. R Balasubramanian for the aforesaid acts," the Court had said. .Balasubramanian was representing three individuals facing contempt. On June 4, the Court ordered the police to arrest the contemnors and ensure their presence. However, the police revealed that they were unable to secure their presence because Balasubramanian stopped them from carrying out their duty. Earlier, Balasubramanian had filed an application on behalf of the same individuals in what they believed was a property dispute case. But during a hearing before the High Court, the three admitted that they had no idea what the application actually said. It was written in English and the contemnors claimed the lawyer had not explained it to them properly. They thought they were filing a regular property case, not asking for the case to be transferred.The Court said that it was disturbed by the lawyer’s actions and pointed out that the language used in the documents was not only inappropriate but also disrespectful toward judges, including a judicial officer of the labour court.
