The Supreme Court, on Friday, stayed the declaration of result of the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2017 and Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Examination 2017..The Bench of Justices SA Bobde and L Nageswara Rao observed that there existed sufficient material on record to presume that the CGL and CHSL exams were, in fact, tainted and therefore imposed a stay on the declaration of the result..“…we find that there is sufficient material on record at this stage to raise a presumption that the CGL (Combined Graduate Level) Examination 2017 and CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) Examination 2017 were tainted”, reads the order..The petitioner represented by Advocates Prashant Bhushan and Govind Jee, has challenged the manner in which the exams were held claiming that the exams were conducted in an “illegal and malafide” way..The Court’s observation of the presumption of the exams being tainted came after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed its status reports between July 25 and August 30. CBI was represented by ASG Vikramjit Banerjee..While the case was before the Supreme Court, the CBI had registered an FIR which implicated several SSC officials and officials at the agency Sify technologies that conducted the exams..The petitioner had alleged that the SSC had outsourced the task of conducting the exam to a private entity that was named in connection with the Satyam Scam. It was also claimed that the exam was further outsourced by this private entity..Additionally, it was claimed there was corruption involved and the exam was mired by instances of cheating and leaking of question papers and answer keys..The petitioners had prayed for a Court-monitored CBI inquiry. Based on the status reports filed by the CBI, the Court has now imposed an injunction restraining the SSC from declaring the results of these exams..Read the order below.
