Sex Reassignment Certificate not needed for change of sex in passport: Centre to Madras High Court

A Bench of Chief Justice SV Gangapurwala and Justice J Sathya Narayana Prasad, therefore, disposed of a writ petition challenging Passport Rules of 1980.

The Central government on April 29 told Madras High Court that for change of sex from male to female and vice-versa in passports, one need not submit a sex reassignment surgery certificate [Sivakumar TD v Union of India and Ors.].
