Runaway couples must disclose full identity details to court in protection matters: Punjab and Haryana High Court

The Punjab and Haryana High Court registry has announced that petitions by runaway couples seeking protection/ security will not be cleared for listing before the Court unless they disclose their complete personal information including previous addresses and family details. ."This is for the information of the Advocates/ Litigants that in view of the orders passed in CRWP- 1243-2025, in the Protection matters (Run away Couple cases) until all the required particulars including age of the petitioners; complete address; father's name and previous address, are mentioned, petition would not be cleared/passed by the Registry for listing of the same before the Bench," the registry said in a notice issued on March 5. .The notice was issued following an order passed by Justice Sanjay Vashisth on February 6. The single-judge in the order flagged that many a time, a common address is mentioned for both the partners in a petition seeking protection."Many a times, this Court is confronted with similar nature of petitions, wherein one common address of the petitioners is mentioned and no objection is being raised by the Registry. Therefore, it is directed that until all the required particulars including age of the petitioners; complete address; father’s name and previous address, are mentioned, petition would not be cleared/passed by the Registry for listing of the same before the Bench," the Court ordered last month..The single-judge had passed the direction while dealing with the protection plea of a 19-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man who had married on February 1.The Court was told that since they solemnized marriage against the wishes of their family members, they were being threatened.On February 11, Justice Vashisth ordered the Senior Superintendent of Police of Fazilka to look into their representation and after verification, take necessary steps to ensure that their lives and liberty are not jeopardized. The Court had clarified that the order will not validate their marriage or prevent authorities from taking any legal action against them."It is made clear that before looking into the grievances of the petitioners, it would be verified by the concerned authorities, if any case registered against petitioner No.2 [man] by the family members of petitioner No.1 [woman] in the State of Uttrakhand, as petitioner No.1 is resident of District Dehradun (Uttrakhand)," it had ordered..[Read Notice]
