The Rajasthan High Court recently directed the legal heirs of Jaipur royal family to remove ‘maharaj’ or ‘princess’ from the petition filed and contested by them [Maharaj Prithviraj v State & Ors]..Justice Mahendar Kumar Goyal said the petition would otherwise stand dismissed.“Learned Senior Counsel for the petitioners prays for and is granted a week’s time to file correct amended cause title deleting the prefix “Maharaj” & “Princess” from the names of the petitioners and respondent(s) failing which this civil writ petition shall stand dismissed without reference to the Court,” the order passed on October 3 said..After compliance with the direction for removal of the prefixes, the petitions would be heard on October 13. The Court was dealing with writ petitions moved in the name of Maharaj Prithivraj and Maharaj Jagat Singh in 2001..According to a report of the Times of India, the descendants of the erstwhile Jaipur royal family in the writ petitions have challenged the collection of property tax by municipal authorities.
