Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna on Saturday constituted a panel of three sitting High Court judges - including two Chief Justices - to probe the corruption allegations against Justice Yashwant Varma of the Delhi High Court..Justice Varma has been at the centre of a controversy following the alleged recovery of unaccounted money at his official residence. The three-member panel will inquire into the allegations against Justice Varma as part of an in-house inquiry initiated by the CJI before recommending any further action into the matter. He then took oath as Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on July 9, 2024.Pertinently, Justice Nagu, both on the administrative and judicial side, has expedited the hearing of cases of judicial officers who are facing departmental proceedings in Punjab and Haryana. He retires on December 31, 2026..Chief Justice GS Sandhawalia of Himachal Pradesh High Court.Justice Sandhawalia is a graduate of Panjab University in Chandigarh. He enrolled as an advocate in 1989 and represented various government bodies.He had a mixed experience of criminal, civil, service, land acquisition and Constitutional law on the private side, besides being on the panel of the various institutions. He also played lawn tennis during his college days.His father was Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court From 1978 to 1983, and of the Patna High Court from 1983 to 1987.Justice Sandhawalia himself was elevated to the Bench on September 30, 2011 as an additional Judge and became a permanent judge on January 24, 2014. During his tenure at the High Court, he was also Chairman of the Vigilance & Disciplinary Committee.He served as Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court from February 4, 2024 to July 8, 2024. Pertinently, the Centre had delayed the proposal of his elevation as Chief Justice.In July 2024, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended that Justice Sandhawalia be appointed as Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. However, the same was not cleared.In September 2024, Justice Sandhawalia's name was recommended for Himachal Pradesh. The Centre finally cleared this proposal in December 2024. He assumed charge as Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court on December 29, 2024. He retires on October 31, 2027..Justice Anu Sivaraman of Karnataka High Court.Justice Anu Sivaraman studied English Literature and Journalism before obtaining a law degree from Government Law College, Ernakulam. She is the youngest of the judges on the probe panel.She enrolled as an advocate in March 1991 and served as Standing Counsel for the Corporation of Cochin from 2001 to 2010, Senior Government Pleader from January 2007 and Special Government Pleader (Co-operation) during 2010-2011.She was sworn in as an additional judge of the Kerala High Court on April 10, 2015 and was made a permanent judge on April 5, 2017.Justice Sivaraman was transferred to the Karnataka High Court on March 21, 2024. She is part of the Collegium at the High Court and retires on May 24, 2028.
