Judicial officer Ramesh Kumari took oath as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on August 20..This was after the Central government on August 18 notified her appointment. A notification to that effect was published by the Department of Justice of the Law Ministry. "In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Smt. Ramesh Kumari, to be an Additional Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court from the date she assumes charge of her office till 09.06.2027 i.e. the date of her superannuation on attaining the age of 62 years," read the notification..The decision to elevate her was taken pursuant to the recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium on August 7.With Kumari’s elevation, the strength of women judges in the Punjab and Haryana High Court has risen to 18..The High Court is currently functioning with a strength of 59 judges against its sanctioned strength of 85.
