A court in Ajmer on November 27 issued notice to defendants (Muslim side) in a civil suit claiming that the Ajmer Dargah in Rajasthan was built over a Shiva temple and should be declared as Bhagwan Shri Sankatmochan Mahadev Virajman Temple..Civil Judge (Junior Division) Man Mohan Chandel passed the direction. The matter will be heard next on December 20..The suit was filed by Hindu Sena President Vishnu Gupta through advocate Shashi Ranjan Kumar Singh seeking the Dargah Committee's removal from the premises. It also sought directions to the Archaeological Survey of India to conduct a survey of the Dargah..The Ajmer Dargah is the tomb of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. As per the plea, the roof design at the main entrance gate resembles a Hindu structure, indicating that the site was originally a temple."The materials and the style of these chatrees plaintly betray their Hindu origin. Their excellent surface carving is unfortunately hidden from view of coats of colour and whitewashing, which can showcases its true identity and reality after its removal.".It has further argued that there is no record indicating that the Ajmer Dargah was constructed on vacant land. Instead, historical accounts suggest the existence of a Mahadeva temple and Jain temples at the site, where Hindu devotees were worshipping their deities. Therefore, the suit has sought directions to the Union government to reconstruct the Bhagwan Shri Sankatmochan Mahadev Temple at the site of the disputed property.
