The Punjab and Haryana High Court has initiated a suo motu case to look into the issue of denial of security to judicial officers posted at the High Court..A Bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sanjiv Berry opined that the safety of judicial officers is the responsibility of the Administration of the Chandigarh Union Territory. "We are prima facie of the view that security and safety of judicial officers posted on deputation is the responsibility of the Union Territory (UT) Admin," the Court stated.It, therefore, directed the Administration to file a response to the matter by way of an affidavit of the Director General of Police within two weeks..The suo motu case was initiated on the basis of a resolution of the building committee of the High Court dated August 4.The resolution primarily raised the issue of denial of security personnel to the judicial officers posted with the registry of the High Court.The Chandigarh SSP told the Committee that there was a shortage of personnel.
