Advocate Maninderjit Singh Bedi has been appointed as the new Advocate General (AG) of Punjab.."The Governor of Punjab in exercise of the powers conferred under Article 165 of the Constitution of India, is pleased to appoint Sh. Maninderjit Singh Bedi ... as Advocate General for the State of Punjab with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office," the State government said in a notification today.The appointment comes on the heels of resignation of Senior Advocate Gurminder Singh from the post. Singh had been appointed as the AG in October 2023..Punjab AGs have had short tenures since September 2021.Senior Advocate APS Deol remained Punjab’s AG for a short period between September 27 and November 12 in 2021 when Congress was in power. He was replaced by Senior Advocate DS Patwalia who also held the post only for a brief period between November 19, 2021 and March 18, 2022. He resigned after Aam Aadmi Party came to power in the StateSenior Advocate Anmol Rattan Sidhu then remained AG till July 2022. He then resigned and Senior Advocate Vinod Ghai was appointed. Ghai resigned in October 2023.Senior Advocate Gurminder Singh then served as AG until the end of this month..Meanwhile, Advocate Anu Chatrath has been appointed as Senior Additional Advocate General of Punjab. The engagement is on contractual basis for one year.
