Obscenity complaint in Bandra court against BeerBiceps, Samay Raina for India's Got Latent show

A Mumbai-based social activist has approached the Bandra Magistrate Court seeking criminal action against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia aka Beer Biceps, comedian Samay Raina, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani and other organizers of the show India’s Got Latent for spreading obscenity and vulgarity through controversial remarks made during a recent episode of the show..The complaint was filed by activist Nikhil Ruparel through advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh. Ruparel, president of the National Delegate NSUI Student Wing (Congress), has claimed that during the bonus episode of India’s Got Latent (aired on YouTube), Ranveer Allahbadia made an obscene comment. This comment, which was widely shared on social media, has sparked outrage for its highly offensive and vulgar nature.He described the statement as “deeply offensive, obscene, and against public decency.”The episode shot on November 14, 2024, at Khar Habitat but aired recently, also saw consistent use of abusive language by the show’s panel, including Allahbadia, Raina, Chanchlani, and Apoorva Makhija. Ruparel has argued that such language, especially when used on a public platform, contributes to the normalization of disrespectful behavior, particularly impacting younger viewers. “The repeated exposure to such language can normalize disrespectful behavior, erode mutual respect, and desensitize young individuals to the consequences of their words, fostering an environment of hostility and aggression,” the complaint states.Such statements should not be made in public discourse as they have the potential to severely degrade societal values, undermine the ethical standards upheld by the community, and negatively influence public morality, he has alleged..As per the complaint, the offensive content violates various sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act (IT Act) including Section 296 of BNS which pertains to obscene acts in public spaces and Section 67 of the IT Act which prohibits the publication and transmission of obscene material in electronic form. “The accused has made a statement that has the potential to create public mischief and outrage among various sections of society,” Ruparel has said in his complaint. Therefore, he has has requested the Bandra Magistrate Court to take cognizance of the case and issue summons to the accused. Similar complaints have also been filed by others including advocate Satyam Surana who practices before the Bombay High Court. Reportedly, the Mumbai Police have already initiated an inquiry into the matter.
