Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut and veteran lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar have ended their five-year-long legal battle, withdrawing the criminal intimidation and defamation cases they had filed against each other..The move came after they reached a settlement through mediation.Subsequently, both of them personally appeared before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court in Bandra, where Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate AK Awari recorded the settlement and disposed of the cases..Akhtar had filed a defamation complaint against Ranaut in December 2020, alleging that she had damaged his "reputation" by making false statements about him in a July 19, 2020, interview with Republic TV’s Arnab Goswami. The 79-year-old lyricist and poet claimed Ranaut had unnecessarily dragged his name into the controversy surrounding actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.Ranaut, now a Member of Parliament from Mandi, had responded with a counter-complaint, accusing Akhtar of criminal intimidation, extortion, and outraging her modesty.Following mediation, both parties agreed to drop their respective complaints, bringing an end to the 5-year-long legal battle.
