A junior law officer of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and a court record keeper (ahlmad) serving at the MCD Appellate Tribunal have been accused of demanding and accepting a bribe in exchange for a favourable order..The complainant, one Rakesh Aggarwal, whose property was sealed by MCD officials, had moved the Appellate Tribunal of MCD seeking de-sealing of his property and a stay order against demolition. The ahlmad Vikas Bharti allegedly sought a bribe of ₹1 lakh on behalf of the junior law officer Renu Soni for granting a favourable order.This prompted Aggarwal to register a complaint on October 16 with the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)..CBI officials and the complainant conducted trap proceedings, during which the accused persons were caught demanding and accepting the bribe amount of ₹60,000 from Aggarwal.This bribe amount was recovered from the possession of the ahlmad. Thereafter, both the accused persons were arrested and are currently lodged in Tihar Jail..On October 18, Special CBI Judge Sanjay Jindal sitting at Rouse Avenue Courts Complex stated that there are no sufficient grounds for granting interim bail to the law officer. The law officer sought interim bail on the ground that her infant child is dependent on breastfeeding.The Court observed that the investigation is at a nascent stage and that other family members can take care of the law officer’s young children.“As far as the request for interim bail made on behalf of accused Renu is concerned, considering the nature of allegations against the applicant and the fact that the investigation is at very initial stage as accused persons have been arrested on 17.10.2025 only, I am of the considered view that there are no sufficient grounds for grant of interim bail to the applicant Renu Soni. There are other family members to look after the children,” the Court stated. Subsequently, she filed a medical report of the infant dated October 21 issued by a government hospital..In today’s hearing, Special Judge MP Singh considered the medical report and granted interim bail to her till October 25..One of the standard bail conditions imposed by the Court is that Soni will not threaten the complainant Aggarwal or any witnesses. The Court noted Aggarwal's submission that Soni had threatened him on October 18."The complainant or the witnesses of the prosecution shall not be threatened and contacted in any manner by her or on her behalf. This is of particular significance for the reason that the complainant has today alleged before me that on 18.10.2025 in the Court premises accused Renu Soni had threatened him," the order stated..Regular bail applications of the accused persons are pending and will be heard on October 25.
