A petition has been filed before the Karnataka High Court by a man seeking ₹5 crore as compensation for falsely framing him for the murder of his wife who was later found to be alive..The petitioner, one Suresh, was falsely accused of murdering his wife and a chargesheet was filed against him under Sections 498A (cruelty), 302 (murder) and 201(fabricating evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).The first information report said that the man had subjected his wife to physical and mental cruelty, suspected her of infidelity, and ultimately murdered her on October 19, 2020, and had hid her body and the weapon used for the crime. However, on April 2, 2025, during the hearing before the sessions court, the man informed the court that his wife was alive and sought directions for her to be produced before the court. Upon production and after conducting an inquiry, including recording statements of the wife, her mother and other witnesses, the court confirmed that the wife was indeed alive. The sessions court then held an inquiry into the role of police officials and directed the Superintendent of Police of Mysuru to submit a report. Based on the findings, the sessions court acquitted the man and ordered a compensation of ₹1 lakh to be paid to him after holding the police responsible for the false case. The man has now moved the High Court challenging the inadequate compensation..According to his plea, the trial court failed to recognize him as the victim, even though the chargesheet filed against him was false and baseless. As per the petitioner, that the sessions court wrongly passed an order of acquittal on April 23, 2025, without completing the trial in accordance with the charges framed against the appellant, and that such an order was legally unsustainable. He also pointed out that he spent 1.5 years in jail for no fault of his own and he lost his reputation in the society. .In light of the above, the man has prayed for compensation of ₹5 crore and action against police erring officials. He has also prayed that the word 'accused' be removed from the session court's judgment dated April 23 and be replaced with the word 'victim'.
