Obscene remarks case: BJP MLA CT Ravi tells Karnataka High Court Constitution grants him blanket immunity

The Court said it will examine whether the immunity granted to members of the legislation was absolute or qualified, especially in cases that involved a criminal offence.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC CT Ravi, who has been booked by the Belgavi police last month for allegedly making an obscene remark against Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar on the floor of the Legislative Council, told the Karnataka High Court on Thursday that the FIR against him must be quashed since he is entitled to “blanket immunity” available to MLAs under Article 194(2) of the Constitution.
