The Delhi High Court on Tuesday temporarily restrained an enterprise called Scholars Den from publishing and broadcasting advertisements calling edtech company Physics Wallah "sasta wallah" (cheap one)..Justice Mini Pushkarna ordered, “Accordingly, till the next date of hearing the defendant is restrained from broadcasting , printing and publishing disparaging advertisements and disparaging marks in electronic, print or any media in relation to Physics Wallah.”.Physics Wallah contended that it is reputed for offering affordable courses to students with courses ranging from ₹50 to ₹1 lakh.It is Physics Wallah’s contention that Scholars Den is using an ad calling it "sasta wallah" to promote itself. It was argued that the ad also indicates that since Physics Wallah is not expensive, it not good. Stating that the "sasta wallah" ad is sometimes shot and displayed outside Physics Wallah’s physical coaching classes, the lawyer said, “He can’t disparage my product right outside my physical station. He takes this advertisement and circulates on social media with my name written on it.”.On looking at the evidence, the Court found merit in a case for injunction since the advertisement was disparaging prima facie. “In the above circumstances, the plaintiffs have demonstrated a prima facie case for grant of injunction and, in case, no ex parte ad interim injunction is granted, the plaintiffs will suffer an irreparable loss. Further, balance of convenience also lies in favour of the plaintiffs, and against the defendants."The case is now listed for hearing in April 2025 after the completion of pleadings and evidence. .Physics Wallah, often referred to as "PW," began in 2016 as a YouTube channel created by Alakh Pandey, an educator from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
