TV Today Network, which runs the Hindi news channel Aaj Tak, has moved the Delhi High Court against Ananda Bazaar Patrika (ABP) news channel over the name of its 'Maha Dangal' program..TV Today has claimed that 'Maha Dangal' is deceptively similar to 'Dangal', a program that features on Aaj Tak.Justice Amit Bansal today issued notice on TV Today's plea. The Court remarked that viewers would be aware of the channel they watch and the word 'Dangal' itself cannot be trademarked. Justice Bansal also pointed out that there is even a film named 'Dangal'..Advocate Hrishikesh Baruah, who appeared for TV Today, contended that ABP's 'Maha Dangal' program features Priyanka Tripathi, who was earlier with Aaj Tak and hosted its 'Dangal' show. Baruah argued that this was creating confusion in the minds of the viewers. However, he clarified that TV Today was suing ABP only for the use of the name 'Maha Dangal' and the plea does not have anything to do with Tripathi's move to ABP. .Justice Bansal then asked Baruah if the issue could be resolved through mediation as both are prominent TV channels. Baruah informed the Court it may be considered on the next date of hearing.Advocate Utsav Trivedi appeared alongside Baruah..Following Tripathi's departure from Aaj Tak, the prime-time debate show Dangal is being hosted by another journalist, Sahil Joshi. After rejoining ABP News as Vice President of News & Programming in October 2024, Tripathi now leads the channel's prime-time programming, hosting two major shows: Mahadangal and Janhith.
