Collegium recalls proposal to transfer Justice Atul Sreedharan from MP to Chhattisgarh; recommends Allahabad instead

The Supreme Court collegium on Wednesday recommended the transfer of Madhya Pradesh High Court Justice Atul Sreedharan to the Allahabad High Court..The decision was taken by the Collegium in a meeting held on October 14, following a government request to reconsider an earlier proposal to transfer Justice Sreedharan to the Chhattisgarh High Court. "The Supreme Court Collegium, in its meeting held on 14th October, 2025, on reconsideration sought by the Government, resolved to recommend that Mr. Justice Atul Sreedharan, Judge, High Court of Madhya Pradesh, be transferred to the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad instead of the High Court of Chhattisgarh," the Collegium statement said..In August this year, the Collegium had recommended that Justice Sreedharan be transferred to Chhattisgarh. This came a few months after he was transferred back to his parent High Court in Madhya Pradesh from the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.Justice Sreedharan was transferred from Madhya Pradesh to Jammu and Kashmir in April 2023 after the judge himself sought the transfer on grounds of his daughter entering law practice in Madhya Pradesh.He was transferred back to Madhya Pradesh in March this year, following which he was recommended for a transfer to Chhattisgarh. Now, the Collegium has reconsidered its earlier proposal and has recommended that he be transferred to the Allahabad High Court instead. .Justice Sreedharan joined the chamber of Senior Advocate Gopal Subramanium in 1992 at Delhi and assisted him till 1997 in several civil and criminal matters before the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court, and trial courts. He practiced independently in Delhi from 1997 to 2000 before shifting to Indore in 2001, where he continued independent practice and worked closely with Senior Advocate Satyendra Kumar Vyas. He also served as Panel Advocate and Government Advocate for the State of Madhya Pradesh before the Indore Bench of the High Court.
