NIRF Rankings 2025: NLUs dominate top 5; NLSIU, NLU Delhi, NALSAR retain top spots

National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru has topped the list of best law schools in India as per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF 2025) rankings for the eighth consecutive year.

National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi), National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR), Hyderabad and West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata retain their previous ranks at second, third and fourth respectively.

Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar (GNLU) has climbed three spots to secure rank 5, up from its previous position at 8.

Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur is in sixth place, followed by Symbiosis Law School, Pune; Jamia Millia Islamia, Aligarh Muslim University and Siksha 'O' Anushadhan, Bhubaneswar.

The announcement was made by the Ministry of Education on its YouTube channel. The parameters used in NIRF include Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practices (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception (PR).

This year, 267 law schools participated in the NIRF rankings, out of which only 13 National Law Universities made it to the top 40.

The other National Law Universities making it to the top 40 are National Law University, Odisha (NLUO) [15th], Chanakya National Law University [17th], Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow (RMLNLU) [21st], National Law Institute University, Bhopal [27th], Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur (MNLU Nagpur) [28th], National University of Study & Research in Law, Ranchi (NUSRL) [30th], Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla (HPNLU) [34th], and National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) [35th].
