The Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna has announced that it will be implementing a menstrual leave policy for the benefit of menstruating students, among other initiatives to aid student welfare. .With this, CNLU has joined several other NLUs in supporting menstruating students on campus, including the NLUs at Jabalpur, Hyderabad, Assam, Bhopal, Aurangabad, Mumbai, Raipur and Visakhapatnam. The decision was taken following a meeting of the CNLU Executive Committee on December 17.Among those who attended the Executive Council meeting were Bihar's Advocate General PK Sahi; Secretary of the State Education Department Baidya Nath Yadav; State Law Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh; Vice-Chancellor of Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur, Prof. (Dr) Manoj Kumar Sinha; Former Dean, Faculty of Law, Banaras Hindu University, Prof. (Dr) Ali Mehdi; and Chairman of the Bihar State Bar Council, Ramakant Sharma. .Notably, the initiatives greenlit during the meeting include a policy to allow students to complete courses at their own pace.Welcoming the development, Vice-Chancellor of CNLU, Prof Faizan Mustafa said that he wanted students to enjoy their university life. He expressed concern over reports of students ending their lives due to heavily loaded curricula and said that he did not want such academic stress for students at CNLU.Students will also now be allowed to fast track the completion of their degrees by opting more than the required number of courses each year..Further, the university has announced the introduction of cyber security and digital forensics programs at CNLU. Several training programs in forensics will be introduced to help train police personnel as well.Additionally, the Executive Council has approved new LL.M Regulations, which will now include 50 per cent more research components. The University has also announced that it will prefer the appointment of candidates having foreign degrees from reputed universities when it comes to faculty recruitment.
