This Sunday, Delhi will witness a different kind of clash between the Bar and the Bench. Only this time, the setting is the cricket field..A team comprising sitting Supreme Court and High Court judges led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna will play against the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record (SCAORA) XI, consisting of Senior Advocates and AoRs. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta will be the non-playing captain of the SCAORA XI. SCAORA President Vipin Nair will be SCAORA XI's playing captain..The judges and lawyers will take part in the inaugural match of the first ever SCAORA 20 overs white ball limited Cricket League on Sunday at 4:30 PM..The judges met on Saturday for a practice session..The inaugural edition of the league will see 8 teams owned by designated Senior Advocates of the Supreme Court battle it out against each other.The eight teams are led by Senior Advocates Dama Seshadri Naidu, PB Suresh, Sajan Poovayya, Devadatt Kamat, Buddy Ranganathan, Sitesh Mukherjee, Vikas Pahwa and Chinmoy Sharma..All the teams will consist exclusively of AoRs and the matches are proposed to be played under floodlights (day/night) with a white ball.The inaugural match is set to be telecast live with special permission from the BCCI and the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA). .SCAORA President Vipin Nair stated in a press release, "Sporting events like the Cricket League promise to be a welcome break to both the judges and the AoRs from their usual serious work schedules and is a continuation of innovative events being introduced by the current SCAORA Executive Committee like holding an International Legal Conclave recently at Goa.".The cricket initiative has been conceived by a core team of Vipin Nair (President), Amit Sharma (Vice-President), Nikhil Jain ( Secretary) and Kaustabh Shukla (Assistant Secretary).
