A local court in Jammu and Kashmir's Bhaderwah recently ordered a man found guilty of creating public nuisance while under the influence of alcohol to clean a cow shelter for three days as punishment..Sub-judge Madhu Sharma of the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Bhaderwah passed the order on March 19. "Accused is convicted and is sentenced to undergo Community Service of cleaning at Shri Gomata Seva Samiti Dhamunder Bhaderwah for 03 days with effect from 24.03.2025 to 26.03.2025 daily for 03 hours from 11:00 AM to 02:00 PM. The convict will complete his sentence under the supervision of SHO P/S Bhaderwah," the trial court ordered.The police officer supervising the community service has been asked to file a compliance report as well to the court by April 3, with photographs of the convicted man performing the community service..The case concerned a man named Bikram Singh. The police submitted that during a patrol, they found Singh creating a public nuisance while in an intoxicated state near Nalthi Naka in Bhaderwah on March 18.The police booked Singh for this act under Section 355 (misconduct in public by a drunken person) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). When the case was taken up by the trial court, Singh confessed to having committed the offence. "The plea of the guilt of the accused is recorded in the open court; same is read over to the accused. The accused admits the same as true and correct. In my considered opinion, the accused has confessed voluntarily and is not under any threat, promise or undue influence," the court said.
