Delhi High Court judge Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma on Friday said that he respects the dissent expressed by the bar bodies of Calcutta High Court over his transfer..Justice Sharma was speaking at the farewell reference organized by the Delhi High Court after Central government approved his transfer to Calcutta High Court. The Bar bodies at Calcutta had opposed Supreme Court Collegium's recommendation for his transfer, stating that he was being shifted to their High Court due to certain allegations against him.Addressing the concerns raised by the Calcutta lawyers, Justice Sharma in his farewell address said,“From here, I would like to assure the Bar Associations at Kolkata that I will serve the institution to the best of my ability and intentions. I will also say … I respect the dissent shown by the bar associations of Kolkata. They have their right to express their dissent and I duly respect … I don’t carry anything in my heart. I fully respect whatever they hold.".Justice Sharma, who was previously a judicial officer, also said in his speech that the Delhi Judicial System had not only shaped his judicial character but also been his “karmabhoomi and alma mater” in the truest sense.“As I prepare to embark upon my next chapter at the Calcutta High Court, I carry with me a heart full of memories, lessons, and enduring relationships,” he said while recalling his journey from the trial courts of Delhi..Justice Sharma also said that as a young judicial officer, he had learnt very early that justice was not simply about pronouncing orders. “It is about listening — not just hearing, but truly listening — to the stories, struggles, and silences of those who come before us. Whether it was a tenant facing eviction or a victim seeking dignity, each case taught me that behind every file lies a human story. My tenure as adjudicating matters arising from MACT taught me the real vagaries and adversities,” he added..He stressed that the public's immense trust in the judiciary must never be taken for granted. “It is what makes our role not just important — but sacred,” the judge said..He concluded his address by stating, “As I prepare to move to the Calcutta High Court — an institution rich in legacy and legal tradition — I do so with humility and hope. I carry Delhi with me — in its discipline, in its values, and in the memories of each and every person who has touched my life here.”.Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Justice Sharma's transfer on March 27. Central government then approved the proposal on April 1.After the Collegium proposal was cleared by the Central government, the Bar Library Club, the High Court Bar Association and the Incorporated Law Society of Calcutta resolved to not participate in the judge's swearing-in ceremony at Calcutta High Court. However, after Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam urged the Bar bodies to reconsider their decision, the Bar bodies today withdrew their joint decision. .[Read live updates from Farewell Reference]
