Gourab Banerji appointed to expert group of Permanent Court of Arbitration

Senior Advocate and President of the Arbitration Bar of India Gourab Banerji has been named as a member of the Expert Group on the Future Development of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) at Hague..This group has been established to commemorate the PCA’s 125th anniversary and to ensure its continued relevance in the evolving landscape of international dispute resolution..PCA is an international organisation established in 1899 under the Hague Convention to facilitate the resolution of disputes between states, international organisations and private parties. Headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands, the PCA provides services for arbitration, mediation and other forms of dispute resolution in matters related to territorial, investment and commercial conflicts.Unlike a traditional court, it does not have permanent judges; instead, it maintains a panel of arbitrators from which disputing parties can choose. The meeting launched the Group’s mandate and initiated discussions on the PCA’s role in international dispute resolution..With support from the International Bureau, the Expert Group will analyse historical and forward-looking perspectives on the PCA’s contributions to international law, presenting its recommendations to the Secretary-General and the Administrative Council in 2026..In October last year, Banerji was appointed as the nominee arbitrator in the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) arbitration case of CTF Holdings SA v. Ukraine.
