Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai said on Friday that the glass partition in the corridors of the Supreme Court will be removed and the Court will revert to its original layout..This would also mean that the corridors will no longer be air conditioned. "We have taken a decision to remove the glass partition. After you come back from vacations, you will see the Supreme Court in its original avatar," CJI Gavai said.The CJI was speaking at the farewell ceremony of Justice Abhay S Oka. .The glass partitions were installed in the Court during the tenure of former CJI DY Chandrachud.It was an effort to modernise and provide centralised air-conditioning in corridors which were otherwise exposed to the extreme heat and cold of the Delhi weather.However, the lawyers' bodies had said that the change was implemented without consulting them. In December last year, the Supreme Court Advocate-on-Record Association (SCAORA) had asked then CJI Sanjiv Khanna to remove the glass partitions. "The corridors, as they once were, embodied the grandeur and timelessness of the Court's legacy. Reinstating the older, open design would not only preserve the historic character of the building but also foster a sense of openness and accessibility," the SCAORA had said.
