Former Chief Justice of Delhi and Rajasthan High Courts Justice Gokal Chand Mittal has passed away at the age of 92..An announcement in this regard was made by his family through the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association."With profound grief and sorrow, it is to inform that Hon'ble Mr. Justice G.C. Mital, Former Chief Justice of Delhi and Rajasthan High Courts and acting Chief Justice of this High Court has left for his heavenly abode today i.e. 05.06.2025. Cremation shall take place tomorrow, 06.06.2025 (Friday) at 11:00 A.M. at Electric Crematorium, Sector-25, Chandigarh," the Bar Association said..Justice Mittal was born on March 4, 1933. After studying law, he enrolled as an advocate in Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1956. He practiced mostly on civil side of the High Court at Chandigarh. He was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court in February 1979 and was made permanent in June 1982. He was appointed as Chief Justice of Delhi High Court in August 1991. In April 1994, he was transferred to Rajasthan High Court. He retired in March 1995.
