Former ASG Pinky Anand appointed judge of Bahrain International Commercial Court

Senior Advocate Pinky Anand has been appointed a judge of the Bahrain International Commercial Court (BICC), which is set to launch on November 5. .Anand, a Senior Advocate with over 40 years of experience, previously served as Additional Solicitor General of India from 2014 to 2020. She has acted as an arbitrator in cases across India, Dubai, Malaysia and Singapore.She has also represented India at the BRICS group of leading emerging economies and was a founding member of the group's legal forum..The BICC is modelled on the Singapore International Commercial Court and will handle complex cross-border commercial disputes in English and Arabic. It will also offer a right of appeal to Singapore’s international committee for English-language cases.Alternatively, a BICC appellate tribunal will hear the appeal if the original judgment is in Arabic or the parties so agree..With Anand and other appointments, the BICC bench now has 17 judges, seven women and 10 men. Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal said he was delighted to learn of Anand's appointment to the BICC. "This recognition of an eminent Indian jurist on such a distinguished global forum is a testament to India's growing stature in international arbitration and commercial dispute resolution. Her appointments reflects the confidence reposed in Indian legal expertise and will further strengthen cross-border judicial cooperation," he said. .Anand will continue her full-time legal practice in India while fulfilling her judicial responsibilities for the BICC remotely or through periodic visits to Bahrain.
