The Delhi High Court has withdrawn judicial work from Justice Yashwant Varma in light of the controversy surrounding recovery of a huge pile of cash from his residence..A notice withdrawing judicial work was issued by the Registrar of the High Court on Monday.The decision was taken after Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna on March 22 asked the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court not to assign any judicial work to Justice Yashwant Varma."In view of the recent events, judicial work from Hon'ble Mr. Justice Yashwant Varma is withdrawn with immediate effect till further orders," the High Court notice said.The court master will assign new dates for cases listed before Justice Varma. .A fire at Justice Varma's house on the evening of March 14 had inadvertently led to the recovery of unaccounted cash by the fire fighters, as per Times of India.A video of the recovery of burnt cash was also apparently shared by the Delhi Police Commissioner with the Chief Justice of the High Court.Justice Varma and his wife were not in Delhi and were travelling in Madhya Pradesh on the said day. Only his daughter and aged mother were at home when the fire broke out.Later, the Supreme Court Collegium decided to repatriate Justice Varma back to the Allahabad High Court, his parent High Court though an official statement in this regard is yet to be published by the Collegium.
