The Delhi High Court on Tuesday quashed the criminal defamation case filed against journalist Arnab Goswami for calling a lawyer who attacked Kanhaiya Kumar in the Patiala House Court a goon.

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna also quashed the cases against Times Group's Sameer Jain and Vinit Jain.

In February 2016, during a televised debate on Times Now hosted by Arnab Goswami, the anchor allegedly described advocate Vikram Singh Chauhan as a goon and hooligan.

Chauhan had been arrested for his alleged role in an attack on Kanhaiya Kumar and journalists on the court premises while the JNU student was produced before the judge in relation to the alleged anti-national sloganeering in the University.

In response, Chauhan filed a criminal defamation complaint, asserting that Goswami’s remarks were “baseless and humiliating” and aimed at destroying his reputation and career.

He also sued Times Group's Samir Jain and Vinit Jain and other officials.

Senior Advocate Malvika Trivedi with advocates Aman Avinav, Kumar Rishabh Parth and Shailendra Slaria appeared for Arnab Goswami.

Senior Advocate Pavan Narang with advocates Himanshu Sethi and Ashwarya Chhabra represented Samir Jain and Vinit Jain.
