A commercial court in Dehradun recently passed an interim order in favour of The Doon School, restraining another educational institution in Srinagar from using the trademark ‘The Doon School’..The order was passed in a suit filed by the 94-year-old Dehradun-based institution alleging unauthorised use of its registered trademark by a school operating in Jammu & Kashmir under the name ‘Doon School, Srinagar’.The court issued an interim injunction, restraining the Srinagar-based school from using the name of 'The Doon School' directly or indirectly during the pendency of the suit. Dr. Ajar Rab, counsel for The Doon School, submitted that there were multiple articles and videos where an entity called Doon School, Srinagar was allegedly operating under a similar name. The articles included a report in The Kashmir Horizon and a YouTube interview referring to a school with the same name. He argued that this could mislead the public and harm the school's long-established reputation..The Doon School, managed by the Indian Public Schools Society, secured trademark registration for its name in 2014. The suit for permanent injunction was filed in November 2024 after the school found an institution under the Akbar Education Trust operating under the same name. .[Read Order]
