The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended a one-year extension of term for three additional judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court. .The decision was taken during a collegium meeting held on March 19, Wednesday. The additional judges whose terms are proposed to be extended for a one-year term are:1. Justice Sachin Singh Rajput, 2. Justice Radhakishan Agrawal, and 3. Justice Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal.This is the second time that the Collegium has recommended that the term of Justices Sachin Singh Rajput and Radhakishan Agrawal as additional judges be extended.Justice Rajput was elevated from the Bar and was appointed a Chhattisgarh High Court judge in May 2022. Justice Agrawal had been serving as a district and sessions judge before he was elevated to the post of an additional judge of the High Court in August 2022. In April 2024, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended that the term of both additional judges be extended by one year, which proposal was approved by the Centre in May 2024. This extended term of one year is set to expire later this year. However, the Collegium has now recommended that they serve one more year as additional judges. .Justice Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal was appointed as a Chhattisgarh High Court judge in April 2023. He had served as a judicial officer in various courts and also served as the Registrar General of the High Court prior to his elevation as an additional judge. He was sworn into office as an additional judge in May 2023. .The Chhattisgarh High Court presently has a working strength of 16 judges as against a sanctioned strength of 22 judges. .[Read Collegium Statement]
