The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of eight judicial officers as judges of the Allahabad High Court..The recommendation was made in a Collegium meeting that took place on April 2. The judicial officers proposed for appointment as High Court judges are:(i) Jitendra Kumar Sinha(ii) Abdul Shahid(iii) Anil Kumar-X(iv) Tej Pratap Tiwari(v) Sandeep Jain(vi) Avnish Saxena(vii) Madan Pal Singh(viii) Harvir Singh.On a related note, a plea is pending before the High Court seeking directions for urgent and time-bound filling of judicial vacancies at the High Court on concerns that more than 50 per cent of the judges' posts are vacant.The Allahabad High Court has been working with 79 judges, as against a sanctioned strength of 160 judges. Recently, the Central government cleared the addition of 3 more judges by approving the proposal to transfer three High Court judges - namely Justices Yashwant Varma, Chandra Dhari Singh and Arindam Sinha - to the Allahabad High Court. However, the Supreme Court has asked the High Court Chief Justice not to assign any judicial work to Justice Varma for the time-being.
