The Central government on Thursday appointed Justice V Kameswar Rao as the acting Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. .The appointment was made in the wake of elevation of incumbent Chief Justice NV Anjaria to the Supreme Court.Today was Justice Anjaria's last working day at the High Court and he is slated to take oath as a Supreme Court judge tomorrow.A notification appointing Justice Rao as the Chief Justice was issued by the Law Ministry."In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Valluri Kameswar Rao, Judge of the Karnataka High Court, to perform the duties of office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from the date Shri Justice NV Anjaria, Chief Justice, Karnataka High Court relinquishes charge of his office consequent upon his elevation as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India," the notification said.Justice Rao, whose parent High Court is the Delhi High Court, was transferred to Karnataka High Court in May 2024.This was after Rao himself requested for the same..Recently, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended that he be repatriated back to Delhi High Court.The said recommendation is yet to be cleared by the government..[Read Notification]
