The Central government on Thursday appointed Justice Lanusungkum Jamir as the acting Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court..The appointment was made in the wake of elevation of incumbent Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi to the Supreme Court..A notification appointing Justice Jamir was issued by the Union Law Ministry."In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Lanusungkum Jamir, Judge of the Gauhati High Court, to perform the duties of office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from the date Shri Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Chief Justice, Gauhati High Court relinquishes charge of his office consequent upon his elevation as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India," the notification said..Justice Jamir obtained his LL.B. in 1988 from the North Eastern Hill University and enrolled with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura in 1989.Justice Jamir was appointed as an additional judge of the Gauhati High Court in May 2013.
