No candidate qualified in the written examination held this year to fill up the 45 vacant posts in the cadre of District Judge in Odisha's district courts..The written examinations for the higher district judiciary were held on January 5. In two separate notices issued on February 17, the Orissa High Court announced that no candidate qualified the written exams held for the posts advertised in 2024.“None has qualified in the Written Examination held on 05.01.2025 for recruitment to the posts in the cadre of District Judge through Limited Competitive Examination pursuant to Advertisement No. 12 of 2024,” the Registrar Examination said in one of the notifications..14 district judge vacancies were advertised in October 2024 to be filled by judicial officers with at least five years of qualifying service as Civil Judge (Senior Division).A total of 83 judicial officers had qualified for the written examination. They hold the ranks of senior civil judge, civil judge, chief judicial magistrate and additional chief judicial magistrate. One of them is posted on deputation as Additional Registrar of the Supreme Court.But none of them qualified the written examination..The other exam was for recruitment of lawyers to the cadre of District Judge. 31 posts had been advertised in October 2024. A total of 283 candidates had qualified for the written examination. Pertinently, many of them were absent.The results were similar with none of the candidates qualifying. .According to the official data, more than 19.3 lakh cases are pending before the district courts of Odisha as on January 31. There are a total of 840 judicial officers in the State against the sanctioned strength of 1,041.
