Atul Subhash suicide: Bengaluru court grants interim bail to wife

A Bengaluru court on Saturday granted interim bail to Nikita Singhania, wife of techie Atul Subhash, who died by suicide last month after alleging harassment by his estranged wife and her family..The sessions court also granted bail to Singhania's mother Nisha and her brother Anurag. A detailed order of the Court is awaited..On January 1, the Karnataka High Court had directed the trial court to hear and decide the bail plea filed by Singhania..The High Court had passed the interim order while hearing a petition filed by Singhania seeking interim bail and challenging her arrest. Singhania’s counsel had told the vacation bench at the time that his client's arrest was illegal as she had not been provided the grounds of arrest by the police.The counsel also urged the High Court to grant interim bail to Singhania to enable her to defend herself before the Supreme Court, where her mother-in-law has filed the habeas corpus petition. .Subhash, a 34-year-old software engineer, had died by suicide in Bengaluru. He left behind an elaborate suicide note and also made a video blaming his estranged wife Nikita Singhania and her family of harassing him and filing false cases against him, driving him to take his life.His video and suicide note sparked a debate on social media, with many calling for the arrest of Nikita and her family members.In the video, he was seen accusing Nikita Singhania and her family of harassing him through multiple matrimonial cases amid their ongoing legal battle over divorce, alimony and child custody in a family court in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur.After uproar over the suicide, a first information report (FIR) was lodged in Bengaluru against Nikita and her three family members under Sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 3(5) (criminal act with a common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.Subsequently, Nikita, her mother and brother were arrested by the Bengaluru police before being remanded to judicial custody.They then approached the trial court for bail.
