As e-commerce continues to dominate the Indian retail landscape, the country’s legal system is grappling with a sharp rise in digital consumer complaints. To equip legal professionals with practical tools to navigate this evolving terrain, Shikayathai.com is hosting an exclusive online seminar titled “Tackling Consumer Law Challenges in the Digital Age” on June 11, 2025.
Over the past year, the Department of Consumer Affairs reported more than 80,000 complaints related to online transactions, including refund delays, defective products, and misleading digital advertisements. While the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, introduced new mechanisms such as e-filing and expanded jurisdiction for district forums, its implementation remains uneven. Forums remain under-resourced, and procedural clarity on digital cases is still evolving.
The upcoming seminar aims to address these gaps by offering advocates a concise, case-focused orientation on how to effectively present digital grievances within the current statutory framework.
The session will be led by Vijay Kumar Makyam, Member of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (Medak). With over a decade of judicial service, Mr. Makyam has adjudicated more than 400 consumer disputes, many involving e-commerce platforms and digital service providers. His presentation will focus on practical aspects of framing complaints under Sections 17 and 21 of the 2019 Act, evidence strategy, and trends in forum rulings.
