Three-judge Benches of Supreme Court to start hearing 40 death penalty cases from September 7

Out of the forty cases, thirty-seven are appeals by the convicts while three are appeals by States.

Forty death penalty related cases will be heard by three-judge Benches of the Supreme Court starting September 7, Tuesday.

A notification that effect was issued by the top court on September 1.

"Take notice that death cases shown below will be listed for hearing before three judge benches with effect from September 7, 2021 (Tuesday) onwards," the notification said.

Out of the forty cases, thirty-seven are appeals by the convicts while three are appeals by States.
