Supreme Court Collegium recommends appointment of 2 advocates, 4 judicial officers as judges of Calcutta High Court; 4 names reiterated

Four judicial officers and two advocates have been recommended by the Collegium.

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the names of four judicial officers and two advocates for appointment as judges of the Calcutta High Court.

The judicial officers recommended are:

1. Shampa Dutt (Paul)

2. Bibhas Ranjan De

3. Siddhartha Roy Chowdhury

4. Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee

The advocates recommended are:

1. Krishna Rao

2. Koyeli Bhattacharyya

In addition to these, the recommendation to elevate the following lawyers has been reiterated by the Collegium after the Central government did not process them the first time:

1. Jaytosh Majumdar

2. Amitesh Banerjee

3. Raja Basu Chowdhury

4. Lapita Banerji

The Collegium approved the proposals at a meeting held on September 1, 2021.

The High Court is currently functioning at half its strength, with 36 vacancies as against 72 sanctioned posts. If these names are approved, the working strength will increase to 46 judges.
