Justice Sharad Kumar Gupta of Chhattisgarh High Court resigns

Justice Gupta had earlier informed of his decision to retire from his post after giving his consent for an undisclosed assignment offered to him by the ruling Congress-led State government.

Justice Sharad Kumar Gupta of the Chhattisgarh High Court has resigned from office with effect from March 31, 2021.

A notification issued in this regard today by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice states that Justice Gupta tendered his resignation in pursuance of Article 217(1)(a) of the Constitution.

Justice Gupta had earlier informed of his decision to retire from his post after giving his consent for an undisclosed assignment offered to him by the ruling Congress-led government in the State.

His resignation letter to President Ramnath Kovind stated:

"I am inclined to relinquish my office from 31st of March, 2021 afternoon since I have already given my consent to the State Government of Chhattisgarh for new assignment. Therefore, I respectfully pray that my resignation may kindly be accepted from 31st of March, 2021 afternoon."

Justice Gupta was appointed as an additional judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court on June 27, 2017.

He was due to retire on April 14 this year.
