Justice Govind Mathur to take charge as Acting Chief Justice of Allahabad HC tomorrow [Read Notification]

The Central government has notified the appointment of Justice Govind Mathur as Acting Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, in view of incumbent Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale’s retirement tomorrow.

On the retirement of Chief Justice Bhosale, Justice Mathur is expected to take assume the mantle from tomorrow, being the senior-most Judge of the High Court . The notification issued today states,

In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Govind Mathur, senior-most Judge of the Allahabad High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from 24th October, 2018 consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale, Chief Justice, Allahabad High Court.

Justice Mathur was transferred to the Allahabad High Court in November last year. Prior to his elevation, he practised in the Rajasthan High Court at Jodhpur, dealing in Constitutional, service and labour matters. He has also served as the standing counsel for various entities including the University of Rajasthan, Indian Oil Corporation, Water and Power Consultancy Services, New Delhi, Central Bank of India, and Punjab National Bank.
