Shruti Mahajan

The Supreme Court Collegium today recommended five lawyers for elevation as judges of the Punjab & Haryana High Court.

The Collegium of the High Court had proposed the names of eight Advocates for elevation. The recommendation made by the Chief Justice of the Punjab & Haryana High Court also had the concurrence of the Chief Ministers and the Governors of the two States, the resolution passed by Supreme Court Collegium states.

After scrutinizing all the material available, consultation with their colleagues, and interaction with the candidates, the three-member Collegium of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi with Justices SA Bobde and NV Ramana resolved to recommend the following names for elevation to the Bench:

Jasgurpreet Singh Puri

Suvir Sehgal

Girish Agnihotri

Alka Sarin

Kamal Sehgal

The Collegium deferred the proposal to elevate advocates Puneet Bali and Vikas Bahl. The same will be taken up for consideration after the Collegium receives certain additional information on them from the Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana High Court.

One of the proposed names, that of Pal Singh Doabia, was remitted by the Collegium to the High Court.
