igightThe Central government on July 17 appointed Justice Puthichira Sam Koshy as Acting Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court.
The appointment was made in light of incumbent Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul's transfer to the Calcutta High Court and will continue until Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh takes charge as Chief Justice of the High Court.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Puthichira Sam Koshy, Judge of the Telangana High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice ofthat High Court consequent upon transfer of Shri Justice Sujoy Paul, Acting Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court as a Judge of the Calcutta High Court and till Shri Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, Chief Justice of Tripura High Court takes charge as Chief Justice of Telangana High Court," the notification read.
Justice Koshy enrolled as an advocate in 1991 and practiced civil, constitutional, service and labour matters before the Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur until 2000, and then before the Chhattisgarh High Court at Bilaspur until 2013.
He served as Government Advocate (2002–2004) and Deputy Advocate General (2005–2006), and was associated with Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur in various academic roles.
He was appointed as an additional judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court on September 16, 2013 and was made a permanent judge on March 8, 2016.
He was transferred to the Telangana High Court, where he took oath on July 27, 2023.
