The Central government on July 17 notified the appointment of Justice Todupunuri Amarnath Goud as Acting Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.
This follows the transfer of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh to the Telangana High Court. Justice Goud will perform the duties of Chief Justice until Justice MSR Ramachandra Rao, currently Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, takes charge as Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Todupunuri Amarnath Goud, Judge of the Tripura High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court consequent upon transfer of Shri Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court as Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court and till Shri Justice Mamidanna Satya Ratna Sri Ramachandra Rao, Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court takes charge as Chief Justice of Tripura High Court," the notification read.
Justice Goud enrolled as an advocate in 1990 and practiced in various branches of law, including civil, criminal, and constitutional matters. He held roles such as Arbitrator, Amicus Curiae, and Advocate Commissioner, and served as Standing Counsel for Nalgonda District Co-operative Central Bank.
He was elevated as a Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad in 2017, where he disposed of over 87,000 cases. He took oath as a Judge of the Tripura High Court on October 28, 2021.
