SASTRA (Deemed to be University), Thanjavur won the 21st KK Luthra Memorial Moot Court Competition hosted by Campus Law Centre, Delhi University from February 21-23.

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University was declared as runners-up.

The Best Memorial was awarded to Lloyd Law School, Greater Noida and Best Speaker was awarded to Maharaja Agrasen College, Delhi.

The moot problem was based on the legality of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in policing, which is an emerging issue across jurisdictions around the globe. The competition saw participation from 127 teams from India and abroad, with only 72 having qualified to the oral rounds.

The final round was presided by judges of the Delhi High Court. The event also witnessed the presence of Supreme Court Justice Abhay S Oka as the Chief Guest. Delhi High Court judges, Justice Amit Bansal, Justice Mini Pushkarna and Justice Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar were Guests of Honour.

Expressing his concern regarding moot problems focused on international law, Justice Oka urged law colleges to structure moot court problems around civil appeals and criminal appeals in order to strengthen students' understanding of fundamental legal principles and produce competent advocates and future judges.

While highlighting the significance of trial practice, he stressed that to master the art of advocacy, students can observe senior lawyers argue in court.

Justice Bansal advised lawyers to prepare their cases with utmost diligence, remain composed and never get unsettled by questions posed by the bench.

Justice Pushkarna spoke on the practical significance of moot courts, and that legal education can help shape citizens who serve the public.

Justice Shankar congratulated the Luthra family for completing 21 years of the moot court competition.
