The Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur (HNLU) in collaboration with the Chhattisgarh Police recently finished a capacity building training on the new criminal laws for Chhattisgarh Police officers.
This is the third phase of the programme which concluded on Friday, January 31 with the training of its second batch of police officials.
A valediction ceremony organised to mark the event was held at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose State Police Academy, Chandkhuri, Raipur.
Vice-Chancellor, HNLU, Prof (Dr) VC Vivekanandan emphasized on the role of technological advancements in crime investigation, evidence collection, and law enforcement. He stated that the integration of law and technology is crucial for effective policing and to maintain law and order.
Speaking on the significance of law and law-making in democracy, Prof Vivekanandan stressed the importance of both theoretical knowledge and practical training in equipping officers with the necessary tools to uphold justice.
Director of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose State Police Academy, Dr Ratan Lal Dangi (IPS) encouraged participating officers to implement their learning in their respective fields and train their juniors, ensuring the effective execution of the training lessons in real-world policing.
Superintendent of Police at the State Police Academy, Dr Abhishek Pallava (IPS) spoke on the significance of equipping police officers with the latest legal knowledge and investigative techniques.
The ten-day training program featured eminent resource persons, including HNLU professors, practicing advocates of the Supreme Court, High Courts, trial courts, prosecution officers, and retired judicial officers who provided insight into various aspects of the new criminal laws and their practical implementation.
The program included role-play exercises which replicated police station investigation procedures based on case studies.
The vote of thanks was delivered by the Registrar of HNLU, Dr Deepak Kumar Srivastava, who expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, participants, and resource persons for their invaluable contributions to the success of the program.
Organized under the aegis of the Centre for Comparative Law, School for Law and Governance, and the Centre for Forensics, School for Law and Technology at HNLU, the third phase of the training program is part of the collaborative initiative which kickstarted in May 2024, before the implementation of the new criminal laws.
This initiative stems from a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Vice-Chancellor of HNLU, Prof (Dr) VC Vivekanandan and the Director General of Police, Ashok Juneja in March 2024.
The training programmes were coordinated by Registrar, Dr Deepak Srivastava, Faculty HNLU, Abhinav K Shukla, Additional Superintendent of Police, Dr Pankaj Shukla, and Prosecution Officer, State Police Academy, Shubham Tomar.
This initiative is part of efforts by the HNLU and the Chhattisgarh Police to foster legal expertise and professional development among law enforcement officers, ensuring better law and order implementation in the State.
